I’m Crying Just For You
I never knew what love could do
I never knew I could feel blue
I never knew till I met you
But now I’m learning,
And how I’m yearning,
I gave you all the love I had
I thought that you could make me glad
And now you ask me why I’m sad
I’ll tell you why I cry for you
I’m crying ’cause I know you’ll break my heart
I’m crying ’cause we’re drifting far apart
I’m crying for a little love that’s true
Like I gave you I want it, I want it,
You used to want it too,
I’m crying ’cause you’re acting mighty strange
I’m crying just to think how soon you’ve changed
I ought to hate you but I love love you love you true,
That’s why I’m crying just for you.
I’m crying ’cause I know you’ll break my heart
I’m crying ’cause we’re drifting far apart
I’m crying for a little love that’s true
Like I gave you I want it, I want it,
You used to want it too,
I’m crying ’cause you’re acting mighty strange
I’m crying just to think how soon you’ve changed
I ought to hate you but I love love you love you true,
That’s why I’m crying just for you.
I gave up ev’ry friend I knew
I gave up all my pleasures too
Once I would give the world for you
But you decieved me,
And how you grieved me,
You promised some day bye and bye
We’d live in loveland, you and I
You ruined all the dreams I had
And still you ask me why I’m sad
I’m crying ’cause I know you’ll break my heart
I’m crying ’cause we’re drifting far apart
I’m crying for a little love that’s true
Like I gave you I want it, I want it,
You used to want it too,
I’m crying ’cause you’re acting mighty strange
I’m crying just to think how soon you’ve changed
I ought to hate you but I love love you love you true,
That’s why I’m crying just for you.
I’m crying ’cause I know you’ll break my heart
I’m crying ’cause we’re drifting far apart
I’m crying for a little love that’s true
Like I gave you I want it, I want it,
You used to want it too,
I’m crying ’cause you’re acting mighty strange
I’m crying just to think how soon you’ve changed
I ought to hate you but I love love you love you true,
That’s why I’m crying just for you.

You Ain’t Talking to Me
We all remember childhood days,
And the good times that we had
The many jokes we used to play,
On mother and sometimes on dad
When da sat down, upon a tack
He jumped up with pain and cried
“You’re a bad, bad boy now come straight to me.”
I tremblingly replied.
You ain’t talking to me,
You ain’t talking to me
I may be foolish and all of that,
But that’s not my fault you see
You ain’t talking to me,
You ain’t talking to me
To the woodshed we’d repair,
Papa spanked me you know where;
No; You ain’t talking to me.
Now I was sick December last,
I had fierce pains in my head
The doctor said you’ve got the Grippe,
And it’s quite serious I’m ’fraid
He said the only cure could be
To bathe in water cold
Then I said to “Doc” I will not get well,
I’ll never be so bold.
You ain’t talking to me,
You ain’t talking to me
I may be foolish and all of that
But I got good sense you see
You ain’t talking to me,
You ain’t talking to me
No doubt I got the grip,
No cold water will I dip.
Oh! You ain’t talking to me.
I met a lady just last week,
And her name was Lindy Lee
To tell the truth she was a Dream,
I tell you, she looked good to me
She said it’s Leap Year and you know,
You’re the man I’d like to wed
But when I found out, she had ten kids,
To her I quickly said.
You ain’t talking to me,
You ain’t talking to me
I may be foolish and all of that
But I’ve got good sense you see
You ain’t talking to me,
You ain’t talking to me
I liked the lady’s bids
But she had too many kids:
Oh! You ain’t talking to me.
I went one day, to lady’s house
just to get a bite to eat
She gave me lots of pork and beans,
and lots of pie called “minsus” meat
When I got through, she said to me,
now I hope I’ve fed you good
Won’t you go, for me, out in our back yard
and saw that cord of wood.
You ain’t talking to me,
you ain’t talking to me
I may look foolish and all of that,
but I’ve got good sense you see
You ain’t talking to me,
you ain’t talking to me
Your food was very good,
but I couldn’t saw the wood
So you ain’t talking to me.
My wife and I had ups and downs,
all through our married life
She said there was no use of us,
goin’ through this toil and strife
We took a walk, along the lake,
one evening just ’bout dusk
When she said to me, let us drawn ourselves,
no one will grieve ’bout us.
You ain’t talking to me,
you ain’t talking to me
I may look foolish and all of that,
but I’ve got good sense you see
You ain’t talking to me,
you ain’t talking to me
But when the lake gets dry,
that’s time enough to die
So you ain’t talking to me.

The Right Church but the Wrong Pew
Now who’s dat a knocking, at this hour it’s shocking,
To be banging on a lady’s door,
Said ’Lizabeth Thompson, “’Taint a soul but Jim Johnson,
I will fool him and pretend I don’t live here no more,
Miss Thompson’s done moved sir, and the fact’s easy proved, sir,
’Cause her trunk and little things aint here,
Now I’m done explaining so there’s no need remaining,
I am sorry for to tell you sir.
You’re in the right church but the wrong pew,
You’ve got the right neighborhood that’s true,
You’re in the right street and what’s more,
You’re in the right house but on the wrong floor,
Now when you’re out late, get the name straight
before you attempt to call,
You’re in the right church but the wrong pew, dat’s all.
Goodbye if you’re leaving and I hope you aint grieving,
Have you any message for your friend?
I know of a lady who will call on your baby,
Shall I tell her that you left word, you would call again,
Said Jim to Miss Thompson, “You just say that Jim Johnson,
Call a round to bid a last adieu,”
Now what’s that you’re saying look here Jim quit your playing,
I was joking when I said to you.
One night while a sleeping I heard somebody creeping,
’Twas a burglar man had come to call,
It cert’ny was funny ’cause he thought I had money,
And as broke as I was then he tried to make a haul,
I yelled, and said, “Mister I have got a rich sister,
But she’s living on the floor below,
To whom it concerns sir, she’s got money to burn sir,
Now you know exactly where to go.

Don’t Take Me Home
Augustus J. McCann,
Is a hen pecked married man,
He’s been a fighting with his wife
since his marred life began,
One night at half past three,
while out upon a spree,
A Motor knocked him down and out
and it nearly broke his knee;
The Chauffeur raised Mac’s head,
He said “this man is dead;”
But when he said “we’ll take hime home”
McCann jumped up and said.
Don’t take me home,
please don’t take me home,
Tell me, what did I do to you?
Oo oo oo oo have a little pity
I’m a poor married man,
in search of peace I roam,
I’m with you in any thing you do
but don’t take me home.
McCann made such a fight
That they-locked him up that night
Next day he got six month in jail
And he said now I’m in right
In jail there was no strife
He never saw his wife
He said that he’d be happy
if he could stay there all his life
But after half a year
They said “get out of here”
The jailer said we’ll take you home
But Mac yelled out in fear.
Don’t take me home,
please don’t take me home,
Tell me, what did I do to you?
Oo oo oo oo have a little pity
I’m a poor married man,
in search of peace I roam,
I’m with you in any thing you do
but don’t take me home.
McCann became so sore
That he ran off to the war
That war was like Vacation Time
after all he’d fought before
He always led the fray
But he was shot one day
His comrades saw he couldn’t walk
and they carried him away
Up on his cot he fell
The doctor said “well well”
We’ll send this man home to his wife
Then Mac began to yell.
Don’t take me home,
please don’t take me home,
Tell me, what did I do to you?
Oo oo oo oo have a little pity
I’m a poor married man,
in search of peace I roam,
I’m with you in any thing you do
but don’t take me home.
