アルヴィンとチップマンクスはアメリカの歌手でソングライターのロス・バグダサリアン（Ross Bagdasarian、1919～1972年）が1958年に生み出したキャラクターで、シマリスのアルヴィン、サイモン（Simon）、シオドア（Theodore）と、その養い親になった人間のデイヴィッド・サヴィルからなるグループ。二分の一の速度でバグダサリアンの声を録音したものを、通常の速度で再生することで、歌うシマリスの甲高い声を実現しています。

セバスティアン・イラディエル（Sebastián Iradier、1809～1865年）の「鳩（La Paloma）」（http://yogaku-manyoshu.blog.jp/archives/8158673.html）を、オーストリアの俳優で歌手でもあるフレディー・クイン（Freddy Quinn、1931年～）が1959年に自身の主演した映画「フレディーとギターと海と（Freddy, die Gitarre und das Meer）」の中で歌ったものです。原題はスペイン語のまま「ラ・パロマ（La Paloma）」となっています。前半部はスペイン語の原詩をそのまま歌っていますが、後半はドイツ語で新しい歌詞が付けられています。
