「昔の歌：第１集（Songs Of The Past, No. 1）」（http://yogaku-manyoshu.blog.jp/archives/22536312.html）に引用されている楽曲の一つです。「お涙頂戴ものの王（king of the tear jerkers）」と呼ばれたチャールズ・Ｋ・ハリス（Charles K. Harris、1867～1930年）が、1891年に発表した楽曲で、ハリスの代表曲となっています。1893年にはジョージ・Ｊ・ガスキン（George J. Gaskin、1863～1920年）が最初に録音していて、その後も1931年にはフィドリン・ジョン・カーソン（Fiddlin’ John Carson、1868～1949年）も録音を残しています。
